Customer Request

In June, a long-standing customer in Nigeria contacted SauriVehicle about sourcing three refurbished Sinotruk HOWO CNG trucks in the 380–430 hp range for one of his own customers. He had already purchased eight vehicles through us.

His customer had received an attractive quote of approximately US$25,000 per truck. That price excluded ocean freight, taxes, customs declaration and export-related fees. The proposed three-truck purchase therefore came to around US$75,000 before those additional costs. Our customer wanted to know whether we could source the trucks and arrange the purchase.

02

What We Checked

For the refurbished HOWO CNG inquiry, we spoke with several factory owners about availability, the feasibility of the US$25,000 price and the quality that could be supplied under that proposal. We also asked about the normal market price for the refurbishment standard under discussion.

This was a sourcing assessment based on factory discussions, not a physical inspection of three identified trucks. The supplier-provided photographs show vehicle configurations; they do not establish specific mechanical defects.

03

Critical Finding

For the refurbishment standard discussed in this HOWO CNG inquiry, several factory owners indicated a normal market price of around RMB250,000 per truck—approximately US$36,000-plus in our sourcing estimate.

That reference was substantially above the US$25,000 offer. Our discussions established that supply at the lower price was possible, but led us to judge the quality available under that proposal unsatisfactory and the risk of after-sales repairs too high. Being able to meet the quoted price was not enough to make the purchase advisable.

04

Risk Assessment

For the three-truck HOWO CNG order, we gave our customer a direct answer: supply was available and the US$25,000 price could be achieved, but we did not recommend proceeding because of the quality and repair risks.

We chose not to take the order. Accepting a risk we already considered too high could have damaged the trust built over eight previous vehicle purchases. The approximately US$75,000 proposed order value did not justify that trade-off.

05

Buyer Outcome

Following the HOWO CNG sourcing review, our Nigerian customer later told us that he had accepted our assessment and decided not to proceed with the three-truck order.

The outcome was a decision to walk away from this proposal, not a completed sale. For SauriVehicle, protecting the long-term customer relationship mattered more than taking an order we could not confidently recommend.
