BMW has released official images of a camouflaged electric M3 production prototype that is closer to final form than the earlier BMW M Neue Klasse concept. The prototype retains a wide-body stance and M lighting details while replacing several dramatic concept elements with more conventional production-ready exterior components.

Production-ready exterior changes

The BMW electric M3 production prototype adopts a more restrained exterior than the earlier concept. The main visible changes and retained details include:

  • A smaller front splitter and less aggressive front bumper
  • Functional bonnet vents for electric-drive cooling
  • Conventional exterior mirrors in place of the concept’s sculpted units
  • Flush, push-type door handles
  • Retained wide-body wheel arches and yellow M lighting
  • A small ducktail rear spoiler and large lower diffuser instead of a tall rear wing

Performance figures remain unconfirmed

The BMW electric M3 does not yet have official power, torque, battery-capacity or acceleration figures. BMW M division head Frank van Meel said four-digit horsepower would not provide a practical benefit and could make the car harder to control, indicating that the development target is not simply the highest possible output.

Because BMW has not published final technical specifications, earlier reported figures for motor count, output and battery capacity remain unconfirmed and are not presented as production specifications.
